1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

My music magazine, "Off Beat" uses forms and conventions of real life media products by the necessary conventions from magazines for example the house style which therefore creates an association when customers buy the magazine and also creates a recognisable image for the magazine for customers to realise in the future.

When designing my magazine front cover I needed to make sure that it was bold and eye catching so when on the shelf it catches the attention of my target audience. My mast head uses clear typography so it is easy to read and bold to ensure that the audience can read it from a far. When picking my pictures I wanted there to be one clear picture of the artist so it is clear what the magazines main feature was about. I picked the picture as it stood out from my black and white theme but still keeping in the mise-en-scene of RnB. By using Ryan Wain singing on the front cover it ensures that the audience understand that it is a music magazine and also what sort of content will be included. The costumes throughout the magazine all also keep with the mise-en-scene being urban and edgy. By the typography throughout the magazine being modern and clear it links to the modern nature of the magazine. When deciding what I should include within my magazine I thought the best way was to include a lot of information from a personal view was conducting a interview with Ryan Wain. When doing a questionnaire on what people wanted to see in the magazine interviews were the highest this ensures that my target audience like the content. When deciding on my music genre my inspiration was the magazine 'BillBoard' as this changes genre every issue. I like the idea as it keeps the magazine fresh and current. This ensures that it appeals to a large target audience. The layout of my magazine is similar to 'Billboard' as the main image is slightly covering the masthead of the magazine. I have also taken into account where on a top shelf in a shop the main cover story would still be visible to the human eye. The contents page of my magazine keeps with the urban feel of my magazine as I have used a main picture of 'Ryan Wain'. This also helps the audience to know that Ryan is the main feature of this magazine issue. It also prompts the reader to actually go and read the double page spread interview.
