Justin Bieber on the cover of Billboard magazine

1) Magazine Analysis

On this magazine front cover the colours that are used are bright and help catch the eye of the potential reader. They have used the colour red to highlight certain headings. Yellow's and blues have been used as these are all primary colours they are quite bold and are likely to draw the attention of potential readers. With the attention drawn to this magazine the potential audience may result in buying this magazine. The main image used is a picture of Justin Bieber. Justin Bieber is directly looking at the audience in the picture. This makes the audience feel like they have a connection with Justin Bieber as he is looking directly at them. I like this picture of Justin Bieber as he looks like he is trying to attract the attention of the magazine audience. The magazine draws my attention mainly due to the fact is has a big picture of a global superstar (Justin Bieber) and also as I am someone who likes to know all the current stories on celebrities I will most likely pick up this magazine to find out how Justin Bieber's music career is progressing. The main target audience of this magazine is young girls between the ages of 12-14 years old. The reason for this is that Justin Bieber is the main image of the front cover, and many young girls enjoy his music and his personal appearance. Therefore because Justin Bieber is the main image girls are more likely to buy this particular issue magazine. The style of this magazine does appeal to me as I like bright vibrant colours and like to know the latest in the music industry.

Adele on the cover of RollingStone magazine

 2) Magazine Analysis

This Rolling Stone magazine cover featuring Adele draws audience by the colouring as it is extremely dark which brings out the paleness of Adele' face. The background is a light blue this put all the attention on the image of Adele as her dark hair shadows the magazine cover. These colours don't appeal to me as I do not find dark colours attractive. The only image that is used is the close-up of Adele's face. Adele has a blank expression on her face, this leaves it up to the audience to think what she may be feeling. I like this image as it leaves the reader to question that Adele is feeling. The style of this magazine does appeal to me because the font is eye catching due to the red RollingStone title. The target audience of this magazine is American fans who enjoy Rock/Pop music also for people who are interested in famous American figures. RollingStone appeals to people greatly passionate about music.

4) Magazine Analysis

Emma Watson on the cover of Elle magazine
The front cover of ‘Elle’ suggests that the magazines genre is young women’s fashion and style magazine. The front cover of ‘Elle’ catches attention in many different ways by using bold text and graphics e.g. images and text boxes. This makes the magazine appealing to its audiences. ‘Elle’s audience for this magazine would be young girls/women between the ages of 16 – 25 as they would be interested in fashion, health, beauty tips and celebrities. The colour layout and content flagged up in the cover appeals to more style conscious and sophisticated female readers.  The theme of this front cover is rock star. We know this as Emma Watson is dressed in Gothic/punk style clothing. This actress would usually not be perceived in this way. Emma Watson looking directly at the viewer and suggesting a strong, assured and secure person. Usually she will be seen as classy, elegant and modern. This helps interests the reader into buying this magazine as they want to find out why Emma Watson is dressed like this and it may inspire them to follow the magazine trends. The colour red could represent the passion and aggression in this picture, this then links to the theme of rock star. The Pink/red girlie colours in the masthead connote the gender of the magazine to be female. Style is emphasised by the large headline ‘The New Trends’ with new in a lower case friendly font and in the trademark pink/red of the masthead. In the main imagine on the magazine is Emma Watson. This means they cannot be any flaws or blemishes in her beauty appearance. As a result of this Emma Watson has been airbrushed to give her the magazines stereotypical look that a ‘perfect’ woman should look like. By Emma Watson sitting on a stool helps emphasises her independence and her sexuality. The house style of the magazine is consistent as the same sort of layout appears on every ‘Elle’ magazine. ‘Elle’ may do this as it makes their magazine have their own sort of trademark layout which helps make it noticeable to the reader.  The house style could also be considered attractive this could also mean it makes Emma Watson look more attractive. On the left hand side of the magazine the headline stating ‘EMMA WATSON’ is in large dominating and serious black top case. This helps the audience to know what celebrity will be in the magazine. This could influence the purchase as if the reader doesn’t like Emma Watson they may not buy the magazine.  The sub headings seek to answer the concerns of readers e.g. “Is it OK to cry at work?” “Can stress ruin your looks?”
